David Warner Named Karachi Kings Captain for PSL 2025

David Warner, the former Australia opener, has been appointed captain of Karachi Kings for the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Warner, who was Karachi’s first pick in the January draft, replaces Shan Masood as the team’s skipper.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Warner said:
“We have a fantastic line-up, and I’m super excited to take on the role of captain this year.”

Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal praised Warner’s leadership abilities, stating:
“His track record as a leader and match-winner aligns perfectly with our vision.” He also acknowledged Masood’s contributions, confirming that the former captain remains a key player in the squad.

Karachi Kings Aim for a Turnaround

The Karachi Kings are eager to reverse their recent fortunes, having missed the playoffs for the last three seasons. Since winning their first and only PSL title in 2020, the franchise has struggled to replicate that success.

Warner’s appointment comes on the back of his recent success leading Sydney Thunder to the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 final. This leadership role follows the lifting of a lifetime captaincy ban imposed on him by Cricket Australia due to the 2018 ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town.
