Australia’s Grace Harris has officially signed with Surrey for the first-ever women’s Vitality Blast, becoming the club’s first overseas signing in the new professional era of women’s county cricket in England and Wales.
Making History with Surrey
Harris, a powerful batting all-rounder, has represented Australia 62 times in limited-overs internationals and is known for her explosive batting and clever off-spin. She will be part of Surrey Women’s squad as they compete in the newly structured Vitality Blast, where men’s and women’s teams will play alongside each other for the first time.
Her debut for Surrey is set for June 5 in a double-header fixture at the Kia Oval against Hampshire Hawks, with the men’s team also playing on the same day.
Harris Excited for New Challenge
Expressing her enthusiasm about joining Surrey, Harris stated:
“I can’t wait to take to the pitch with the team at Surrey and the Kia Oval. The club has shown a strong commitment to the women’s side, and I know the team has been working hard over the winter. I’m really looking forward to contributing and making the most of my time here.”
A Star Across Global Tournaments
Harris has built a reputation as a standout performer in franchise leagues. She has been a key player for Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and recently finished as UP Warriorz’ joint-highest run-scorer in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Additionally, she plays for London Spirit in The Hundred and was part of Australia’s squad during the Women’s Ashes series, where they dominated England 16-0.
Surrey’s Vision for the Future
Surrey’s Director of Women’s Cricket, Emma Calvert, highlighted Harris’ impact on the squad:
“We are incredibly excited to announce Grace as our first overseas signing for our newly professional Surrey women’s team. Her international and franchise experience will be invaluable both on and off the pitch. She plays exactly the style of cricket we want to promote, and I can’t wait to see her wearing the three feathers at the Kia Oval this summer.”
Women’s Vitality Blast Format
Surrey will compete in the top tier of the Vitality Blast, alongside seven other counties. Each team will play 14 group-stage matches (home and away), with the top three teams advancing to Finals Day at the Kia Oval on July 27.
With Harris bringing firepower and experience, Surrey aims to make a strong statement in this historic first season of the women’s Vitality Blast.
